Wilhelm Kutta (1867-1944), who started out as a pure mathematician but became interested in Otto Lilienthal’s gliding experiments and therefore in acrodynamic theory. His particular aim was to understand the effect of curvature-why a horizontally placed curved surface produces a positive lift. He published a paper on this subject in 1902 (Ref. 4).
